Buzzing with Purpose: Our new Bee Garden

To mark Needs for Bees Week and play our part in supporting the environment, we’ve been busy creating a bee garden here at Woodend Country Childcare.

With climate change and dwindling bee populations very much on our minds, we wanted to give the children a hands-on way to understand why these small creatures matter so much. Bees are vital pollinators, and without them our gardens, hedgerows and food supplies simply wouldn’t thrive in the way they do.

The children have loved getting stuck in, digging, planting and watering a mix of bee-friendly flowers and herbs chosen specifically to attract and support local pollinators. It’s been a wonderful opportunity to talk about where our food comes from, why biodiversity matters and how even small actions, like planting the right flowers, can make a real difference.

Beyond the digging and planting, the garden has sparked some brilliant conversations. Children have been fascinated learning about the busy life of a bee, from how they communicate to the vital role they play in keeping our planet healthy.

It’s a small patch of garden with a big message, and we’re proud that the children at Woodend are learning to care for the world around them from such a young age.
